Upon learning that the installation of a bus depot in Northern Manhattan led to increased asthma rates in children living nearby, we decided to make an easy-to-use pollution monitor. We created a wearable detector of ambient air pollution that displays air pollution levels by lighting LEDs. By using the device, citizens become informed and empowered about their air quality, and can lobby their legislators with concrete data when their air quality is low enough to hurt their health. Our proposed distribution model is to give one wearable to a child for every one that is purchased.
